Why Every Artist I Know Is Obsessed with Ohuhu (And Why You Might Be Next)

in Shop

Let me just say it—art supplies can get expensive. Like, “is this marker made of gold?” expensive. As someone who’s dabbled in everything from sketching and calligraphy to watercolor and alcohol marker art, I’ve spent a lot of time (and money) chasing that perfect combo of quality and affordability.

So when I started seeing the name Ohuhu pop up all over Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, I was intrigued. Artists I followed were raving about their markers. Some said they were better than Copics. Others were using Ohuhu sketchbooks, pens, and watercolors like they were staples in their studios.

At first, I assumed it was just another internet trend.

Then I ordered a set of Ohuhu Honolulu Series alcohol markers, and the rest, as they say, is history.

From Curious Click to Cart Full of Color

Let me back up. I first visited Ohuhu.com just to look around. What I expected: a small selection of affordable markers. What I found: a full-blown art supply paradise.

Not only do they carry markers (and LOTS of them), they’ve expanded into:

  • Watercolor sets and brush pens
  • Acrylic paints and gel pens
  • Canvas pads, watercolor paper, and mixed-media sketchbooks
  • Marker organizers, storage bags, and desktop easels
  • Drawing tools like blending markers, fine liners, and calligraphy pens

It’s basically a dream for any creative person who likes to dabble in different mediums without dropping a week’s salary at the art store.

My First Love: The Honolulu Alcohol Marker Set

The Ohuhu Honolulu Series is what put the brand on the map for a lot of people—and for good reason.

These markers are double-tipped (brush + chisel), blend like butter, and come in beautifully organized sets ranging from 40 to 320 colors. I grabbed the 120-color set and was blown away by the packaging alone. The markers come in a zippered case with color-coded slots, swatch cards, and even plastic sheets to protect your pages from bleed-through.

As for the markers themselves? Chef’s kiss. The brush tips are flexible but sturdy, with just the right amount of spring. The ink is vibrant, consistent, and super blendable—even for someone who still occasionally colors outside the lines.

I did side-by-side tests with my more expensive markers, and the Ohuhus held their own. In some cases, the Ohuhus even outperformed them, especially in color variety and blending performance.

Not Just Markers: Ohuhu’s Full Creative Lineup

Once I got a taste of those markers, I couldn’t help myself. I started branching out and trying other Ohuhu goodies. Here’s what impressed me most:

1. Watercolor Brush Pens

I picked up their 36-color brush pen set on a whim, expecting it to be decent for journaling or light doodles. What I didn’t expect was how pigmented and smooth the ink was.

The brush tips are nylon and soft enough for painting-style strokes but still easy to control. These have become my go-to for travel sketching and journaling. Just add water (or use a water brush), and boom—instant watercolor effects.

2. Sketchbooks & Paper Pads

Ohuhu’s marker pads are hands-down some of the best I’ve used. The pages are smooth, bleed-proof, and thick enough to hold multiple layers of alcohol ink. I also grabbed their spiral-bound watercolor sketchbook, and I love how it lays flat and takes washes like a champ.

Bonus: The sketchbooks come in different sizes (A4, A5, etc.), so you can take them anywhere.

3. Acrylic Paint Set

When I saw they carried acrylics, I figured, “Why not?” The set I got had 24 tubes, and the colors were shockingly opaque for the price point. They mix beautifully and dry quickly. Perfect for canvas, wood crafts, and even detail work with fine brushes.

Designed for Artists, by Artists

One of the things I’ve come to love about Ohuhu is that it doesn’t feel like a faceless brand. Their product design shows a clear understanding of what artists need:

  • Caps that match the ink accurately
  • Swatch cards in every marker set
  • Carrying cases that are actually useful (not just pretty packaging)
  • Logical color naming and numbering systems
  • Products that work across multiple mediums

You can tell they listen to feedback and are constantly improving. Even their newer marker series (like the pastel brush set or the Honolulu Skin Tones) address specific requests from the art community.

Affordability Without Sacrifice

Here’s the real kicker: Ohuhu products are ridiculously affordable for the quality you get.

For example:

  • 120 alcohol brush markers: ~$80
  • 36 watercolor brush pens: ~$25
  • 60-color gel pen set: under $20
  • Spiral-bound marker sketchbook: ~$12

Compare that to other premium brands, and you’re saving hundreds of dollars without sacrificing performance. It’s not just budget-friendly—it’s smart shopping for artists who create regularly and don’t want to stress every time a marker runs dry.

Ohuhu.com: The Ideal Online Art Shop

Ordering directly from Ohuhu.com is simple and stress-free. They ship worldwide, frequently offer free shipping promotions, and run seasonal sales and bundles.

The site is organized, mobile-friendly, and offers:

  • Detailed product pages with user photos
  • Honest customer reviews
  • How-to guides, swatch charts, and color reference PDFs
  • A loyalty rewards program for repeat buyers
  • Live chat and quick-response email support

Plus, there’s something kind of special about ordering directly from the brand. You get the newest releases first, and they often throw in cute extras—stickers, postcards, even free brush pens.

Community-Driven Creativity

One of my favorite things about Ohuhu is their artist community.

They regularly feature work by real customers on their site and socials. Every time I scroll through the #ohuhuart hashtag, I’m inspired by what people are making—from hyperrealistic portraits to dreamy pastel landscapes, cute chibi illustrations to comic book scenes.

Ohuhu doesn’t just sell supplies—they’ve become a kind of hub for creative energy, encouraging people of all skill levels to make art and share it with the world.

They even host drawing challenges and giveaways throughout the year. It’s clear they’re in it for more than just sales. They’re building a culture of creativity, and that’s something I can fully get behind.

What I’d Love to See Next

No brand is perfect—but Ohuhu is pretty close. If I had a wishlist for future products, it’d look something like this:

  • Individual marker refills (especially for popular colors)
  • Expanded watercolor supplies (tubes, pans, brushes)
  • More surface options like toned sketchbooks and textured paper
  • A brush pen calligraphy-focused set
  • A full acrylic pouring kit

But honestly, considering how fast they’ve expanded over the last two years, I wouldn’t be surprised if these are already in the pipeline.
